Forma Construction Joins the Design Team for Sunset and Chambers Primary Projects

The district recently selected Forma Construction for General Contractor / Construction Management (GC/CM) services for the Sunset and Chambers Primary School replacement projects. Forma emerged as our top choice from a pool of excellent contractors with extensive K-12 construction experience. Our process included a review of Forma's Statement of Qualifications (SOQ), an in-person interview, and a public bid opening outlining their fee for the project.
As our GC/CM, Forma will work closely with the district, NAC Architects, and other partners to design, plan, and build new schools for both Sunset and Chambers Primary Schools. The GC/CM process brings together project owners, architects and builders very early in the design process. This early collaboration leads to better decision-making. Contributions by the general contractor during design include valuable insights into staging, materials, fiscal impacts of design decisions, timeline, phasing of construction, and other critical items to ensure that our schools remain fully operational throughout the construction process.
The district is proceeding with a "prototypical model" design plan for these projects. This approach will result in two buildings that are almost identical in their basic design with a few differences caused by the layout of two sites and the programs that are unique to each school. Using a prototypical design developed collaboratively by the same architect and contractor will also result in cost savings for the district.
