District Completes First Bond Sale to Finance School Replacement Projects

The district recently completed the sale of $50M of public bonds in the municipal bond market to fund the replacement of Sunset Primary, Chambers Primary and multiple buildings at Curtis High School. Strong national investor demand, the District’s strong Aa2 credit rating from Moody’s credit rating agency, and the Washington School Bond Guarantee’s credit rating of Aaa, provided the opportunity to lower interest rates during the sale. Overall borrowing cost for this issue is a low 4.22%. These funds are now available in the Capital Projects Fund and are invested by Pierce County until needed for project costs.
As the projects move forward, additional bond sales will be conducted with the assistance of our financial partners at Piper Sandler and ESD 112’s Financial Services Group.
